NEW PORT RICHEY, FL (WWSB) - A man suspected of robbing multiple banks across Florida, including one here in Sarasota, has been arrested.
Peter Gonzalez, 55, of New Port Richey, was captured by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the New Port Richey Police Department on Wednesday.
According to deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, an arrest warrant was obtained after evidence from a Sun City Center bank robbery revealed the identity of Gonzalez.
HCSO says that on Tuesday, May 15, Gonzalez entered the entered the Wells Fargo Bank located at 808 Pebble Beach Boulevard N in Sun City Center and passed a note to the teller demanding that she stay quiet and give him money.
A nearly identical description was given of the Sarasota robbery.
Deputies with the Sarasota Sheriff's Office say they responded to the Wells Fargo Bank located at 5701 Bee Ridge Road at 10:24 a.m. Thursday, May 3 for reports of a robbery.
According to bank personnel, the suspect passed a note to a teller demanding cash, however, he did not imply he was carrying a weapon.
Gonzalez was arrested without incident during a traffic stop in New Port Richey. He is currently being held at the Pasco County jail and charged with three separate counts of bank robbery, one count in Sarasota, one count Hillsborough and one count in Osceola County.
