UPDATE: FHP says woman fatally run over by own vehicle

MANATEE COUNTY- Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly accident in the parking lot outside BJ's Warehouse on Cooper Creek Boulevard, just north of University Parkway.

It happened around 4:30 Friday evening.  Witnesses say a woman in her 70s was putting groceries in her minivan.  She put her cart away, got into the vehicle, then realized she left some groceries in the cart.

Once she got those items, she tried to put them in her car from the passenger side, and saw that she left her car in neutral.  She tried to put the minivan in park, but for unknown reasons it shifted to reverse- causing the vehicle to run over her.

The woman died from her injuries.  As we mentioned, the accident is still under investigation.

It happened arounf 4:30pm outside the BJ's Warehouse on Cooper Creek Boulevard, just north of University Parkway.
