SARASOTA- Two people were taken to the hospital after being hit by a car Monday evening near the intersection of N. Tamiami Trail and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way.

It happened at about 7 PM.  A man and a woman were trying to cross U.S. 41 when they were struck by a Mercury Sedan.  They were both taken by ambulance to Blake Medical Center.  Northbound lanes of U.S. 41 were closed for about two hours.

We'll continue to follow this story, and share any new developments.
