MANATEE COUNTY, FL (WWSB) - School districts on the Suncoast are participating in a nationwide school walkout observing the 17 lives lost in Broward County.
School officials are asking some Manatee County students to do one thing during the walk out.
School officials tell ABC 7 their are guidelines for students to abide by during the walk out.
Students have to stay within the boundaries of the school and can walk out into the courtyard.
Students will not be punished in either Sarasota or Manatee county for participating in the walkout for 17 minutes at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
Schools in Manatee County are not amping up security for the walkout.
Mike Barber with the Manatee County School District says there are two student resource officers already stationed at each high school and one officer at each middle school.
This comes after several threats to Manatee County Schools like Braden River and Manatee High School.
Close to 50 schools locally will be participating in the walk out.
In Sarasota county schools will include elementary middle and high schools.
In Manatee County mostly high schools will participate.
