Vero Beach motel gets new life as homeless shelter

VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A landmark Vero Beach motel is finding new life as a homeless shelter.

The 20-room Citrus Motel was foreclosed on and purchased in December for $360,000. Its buyers are in the midst of renovating the property and hope to reopen it in April as Camp Haven. Project organizers tell Treasure Coast Newspapers (http://bit.ly/Ygamti ) they plan to target newly homeless people to try and intervene before they become chronically homeless.

They say participants will be required to create and follow a self-sufficiency plan and will be allowed to stay for up to six months.
