LEON COUNTY, FL (WTXL) -- The Florida Highway Patrol is advising that people avoid Westbound I-10 as emergency crews work to clear a triple fatal accident.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol at least three people have died in this accident and another was taken to the hospital.

The accident that was reported at 3:26 p.m. is blocking the westbound lanes near mile marker 214, between exit 209 and exit 217. FHP is detouring traffic at exit to 209 to CR59.

Witnesses are saying that the accident involved a head on collision with a semi truck. Lt. James Shaw said that the driver of a Chevy Impala crossed the median and crashed into the semi truck.

The Florida Highway Patrol traffic map originally said that the eastbound lanes of 1- 10 were backed up instead of the westbound lanes.

As soon as we confirm more details, this story will be updated.
