TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Gov. Rick Scott has asked his inspector general to look into the recent firings of four employees responsible for keeping an eye on any internal wrongdoing at the state-backed Citizens Property Insurance Corp.
Scott wrote Inspector General Melinda Miguel that he was troubled by a Citizens' Audit Committee report released Friday. Scott noted the employees were terminated at a time they were investigating charges the insurer had mismanaged internal investigations and corporate funds.
Scott said Monday that the audit report raised new concerns for him since it gave the appearance of impropriety. He asked Miguel for a thorough review of the dismissals to see if any were retaliatory in nature.
Scott earlier wrote Citizens' President Barry Gilway about his concerns about the decision to disband their internal watchdog office.
