SANFORD, Fla. (AP) — Sanford churches are opening their doors for prayer in the wake of the not-guilty verdict in the trial of George Zimmerman.
The group, Sanford Pastors Connecting, announced churches across Seminole County will open their doors each Monday at noon. The first prayer meeting will be at New Life Word Church. Mayor Jeff Triplett, Norton Bonaparte, City Manager, and Police Chief Cecil Smith are expected to attend.
Rev. Charlie Holt of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Lake Mary said the goal was to pray for unity, peace and strengthen community relations.
Zimmerman was acquitted Saturday night. The neighborhood watch volunteer had been charged with second-degree murder for the February 2012 shooting of Trayvon Martin in Sanford.
