He worked his way up the ranks from a temporary beat reporter to becoming News Director of Florida Public Radio/WFSU-FM in Tallahassee, the oldest public radio network in the United States.
Trimmel has extensive experience covering politics.
He joined Florida’s capitol press corp in 2006 tracking a wide range of controversial issues from abortion, gun laws, education reform and many other hot-button issues that are still being debated today. From covering candidates on the campaign trail to moderating debates Trimmel traveled along with the candidates for governor and other local and statewide office. He provided in depth coverage of both the Republican National Convention in Tampa and the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2012.
A native of Georgetown, Guyana, Trimmel enjoys visiting his home country to see extended family friends. He’s also an avid traveler visiting many countries on a quest to learn more about the many people and world we live in. He’s a graduate of the University of Florida and except for those few times a year when the Gators and Seminoles go head-to-head, he enjoys calling Tallahassee home where he started his own media consulting firm, Gomes Media Strategies, LLC.
