Lakeland, FL - Polk County Sheriff's homicide detectives are conducting a death investigation in Lakeland, after a man found human bones in the woods.

Around 8:55 Tuesday morning, a man says he was looking for scrap metal on North Wabash Avenue in Lakeland, when he found a human skull and some bones.  Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says his office will investigate the case as a homicide. "We are doing this investigation as seriously as it can possibly be done."

Investigators say the remains appear to be those of an adult male.  The remains will be taken to the Medical Examiner's Office, where doctors will attempt to make a positive identification and determine how the person died.
