TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida Gov. Rick Scott says Florida students who get help from the state to attend private schools should take the same standardized tests as public school students.

Scott on Tuesday said that if schools receive tax dollars than they should be held to the same standards that apply to public schools.

There are tens of thousands of students who receive vouchers in Florida through a program set up by the state that helps low-income families.

Scott has been a supporter of giving parents options for schools and at one point even advocated giving out vouchers to anyone regardless of income.

But Scott's stance on requiring private schools to follow the same standards as public schools has been echoed primarily by Democrats. Republican legislators have rejected the idea in the past.
