TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A former correctional officer will now have to register as a sex offender after being convicted of having a sexual relationship with an inmate.

43-year-old Angel Santiago was sentenced to five months in prison and five months’ home detention.

Acording to the court, while working as a correctional officer at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tallahassee, Santiago developed a romantic relationship with a female inmate.  Several times a month between 2010 and 2012, Santiago would enter the inmate’s cell in the early morning hours and have sexual intercourse with her.

In addition to the prison sentence, Santiago is also required to register as a sex offender.
