Florida A&M to host 24-hour news channel

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida A&M University could soon be hosting a new 24-hour news channel geared toward African American viewers across the country.

The Board of Trustees Academic Affairs Committee has approved the move, allowing interim President Larry Robinson to enter into a contract with the Black Television News Channel.

The full board is expected to approve the motion when it meets Thursday.

Students will be able to intern with the network, and BTNC will make over FAMU's broadcast studios to the tune of $10 million in new Sony equipment. The network will also pay the school half a million dollars every year for the first three years.The channel could be on the air as early as August 2015.
