Homestead, FL – Farm Share broke its monthly records by collecting more than 3.2 million pounds of  fresh fruits and vegetables and other nutritious food during the month of December 2013 to help feed Florida’s hungry children, seniors, veterans and families in need.

Farm Share collected more than 2.4 million pounds of donated fresh fruits and vegetables, plus nearly 353,000 pounds of other fresh food products like milk, juice and bread. This in addition to nearly 483,000 pounds of canned goods, dried fruits, rice, beans and other USDA commodities equals a total of more than 3.2 million pounds of nutritious food collected for Florida’s hungry last month.

Farm Share collected 802,000 pounds of fresh produce in December 2012 and 508,000 in December 2011.

In the past year, Farm Share provided more than $40 million in food to more than a million hungry children, seniors, veterans and families in need throughout Florida. Most of the food is distributed through a community network of church food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior centers, and veterans groups.

Farm Share is the largest fresh produce program in Florida and the only statewide food bank that does not charge a fee for any food it provides to community organizations.

Farm Share is a non-profit organization working to alleviate hunger and malnutrition by recovering fresh and nutritious food and distributing it to those who need it most. To learn more about Farm Share and its impact on communities, visit" href="">
