FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after two people were killed when their car collided with a Lee County sheriff's cruiser that was responding to a 911 call.

FHP identities the victims as 84-year-old John Steffen and 77-year-old Marilyn Steffen. The two lived in Florida part time and also in Pandora, Ohio.

The FHP report says the cruiser's emergency lights were on Sunday morning as the deputy was on his way to respond to the 911 call. The car driven by John Steffen crashed into the side of the cruiser, causing it to spin and sending the passenger car over several lanes.

The FHP report says the Steffens were wearing their seat belts. The deputy was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
