LEESBURG, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a man has died and a woman is injured after their small plane crashed in central Florida.

Jack Fillman of Lake County Fire-Rescue says something had gone wrong with the plane and the pilot was trying to land in a pasture when the aircraft crashed into some trees near Leesburg.

Witnesses tell the Orlando Sentinel that they heard the plane's engine cut off before the crash Monday afternoon.

The victims' names were not released. Fillman says a man died in the crash and a woman was airlifted to a hospital.

The National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the crash.
