2 Venice schools locked down after bomb threat at bank

VENICE - Two Suncoast schools were locked down Monday morning after a bank robbery happened nearby.

On Monday around 10 am the Venice Police Department responded to Fifth Third Bank at 273 S. Tamiami Trail, Venice in reference to an armed robbery.

During the investigation it was revealed that the suspect indicated he had a bomb.

Venice Police responded to the area and requested due to the proximity of the bank to the Venice High School and Venice Elementary School that they be locked down as a precaution.

At this time the investigation is active as the Police Department attempts to identify the suspect.

Anyone who may have seen anything unusual in or around the bank on this date is encouraged to call the Venice Police Department at 941-486-2444.
