VENICE, Fla. - A Venice Police officer arrested a man early Saturday morning after they say he was caught in the act of a business burglary.

26-year-old Eric Weed was charged with felony Burglary of a Conveyance and misdemeanor Petit Theft.

According to police, a patrol officer heard a loud noise behind a cleaners and liquor store in the 400 block of S. Tamiami Trail around 2:30am Saturday.  The officer found Weed, who was unable to explain why he was there, at the scene and arrested him for loitering and prowling.

Later that morning, the manager of the liquor store reported that power to the store and its surveillance system had been shut off at the breaker box around 2:30am.  The manager showed police surveillance video from that time period, which included video of Weed opening the door of the store's delivery truck, removing a large tent or awning and hiding it behind the dumpster, then with the aid of a flashlight, cutting the power to the business.

Weed was then charged with burglary and taken to the North County Jail.
