Two injured in North Port motorcycle crash

NORTH PORT - Two Suncoast residents were injured Friday in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on South Sumter Boulevard.

According to the North Port Police Department, 48-year-old Richard Leftwich of Venice was traveling north on Sumter near Appomattox Drive with 34-year-old Chelsie Able of Bradenton as a passenger.

Police say Leftwich's motorcycle struck the curb in the median, causing Leftwich to lose control.  Both riders were ejected and injured.

Both were flown via helicopter to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton for treatment.  Leftwich was listed in critical condition, and Able was listed in serious condition.
