CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. - An ultra-light plane went down into Charlotte Harbor off of Punta Gorda Monday morning.

According to Charlotte County Fire Rescue the pilot of the plane was in contact with the Punta Gorda Airport around 11:30am Monday morning, reporting engine problems.  He went off the radar a short time later.

Authorities say the plane went down about a mile or more off Punta Gorda Isles.

The pilot, a middle-aged male, was able to swim to a sailboat in the harbor for help.  He suffered only minor injuries and refused treatment.
