NORTH PORT - The North Port Police Department has released a sketch of a suspected prowler.
Detectives released the sketch Thursday of the man they say is responsible for peeping through windows, apparently targeting young girls, in a neighborhood east of North Chamberlain Boulevard.
The sketch is based on information from North Port resident Donna Carey, who says she caught the man in the act, tapping on her daughter’s bedroom window. “I just want them to get him. He is scaring the crap out of little girls,” says Carey.
Carey describes the prowler as a white man with freckles, thick eyebrows and a short haircut. “When I first looked at him, I thought he was a high school kid. Then, when he turned around, I noticed he wasn’t that young, probably in his early 20's…definitely capable of hurting someone.
To make sure that doesn’t happen, North Port Police Captain Anthony Siriani is suggesting homeowners take these measures: “If you have lights outside of your home, turn them on. If you have blinds or curtains, close them. Be a good witness and be a good neighbor. If you see something unusual, call the police.”
Police still aren’t 100% sure, but they say the man responsible for these prowling incidents may be linked to a sexual battery case that happened a week ago involving a 12-year-old girl in that same vicinity.
