SARASOTA COUNTY – In a major marijuana bust in north port Friday, authorities arrested a man they say had 85 plants growing inside of a home located in the 2400 block of Carolina Street.

The weight of the plants -- more than 187 pounds – has an estimated street value of close to $400,000.

Authorities busted homeowner Omelio Napoles-Marquez for cultivation of cannabis and trafficking in cannabis.

“He kept to himself. You never saw him, he came and went,” says neighbor Troy Nelson.

While executing a search warrant Friday morning, law officers discovered 85 plants growing in the suspect's two bedrooms and the garage.

The few residents that live on the fairly rural street aren’t all that surprised a grow operation was happening there. “There's few people, less traffic. He was out of the way…a perfect situation for him,” says Nelson.

Napoles-Marquez remains in the Sarasota County Jail, held without bond.

Another life needlessly disrupted by a morally bankrupt and completely ineffective war on drugs. End the madness.
