VENICE, Fla. - City leaders in Venice are considering a ban on shark fishing at the Venice Municipal Fishing Pier.
According to our coverage partners at the Venice Gondolier Sun, the ban comes after numerous complaints of fishermen leaving shark bait and blood all over the pier.
The city manager reportedly sent the mayor an email last week concerning the possible policy change. Aside from the bait left behind, the city is concerned about the damage fishing hooks, and even rats are causing to the pier.
Area fishermen are asking that more research be done on the problems with the pier and shark fishing before placing any kind of ban.
