SARASOTA COUNTY - A two-vehicle crash on I-75 has taken the life of a Port Charlotte woman and forced the closure of all northbound lanes Friday afternoon.

The crash happened around 1:05pm along the River Road overpass at mile marker 191.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 56-year-old Sally Brock of Port Charlotte was headed northbound in the right lane when a minivan driven by 47-year-old Elani Caglioti of Ft. Myers changed lanes from the center to the right lane and struck the rear end of Brock's SUV.

That caused Brock to lose control of the SUV, which turned over and came to a stop in the middle lane.  Caglioti was uninjured and came to a controlled stop in the emergency lane.

Brock, who was wearing a seat belt, died from her injuries in the crash.

Caglioti was charged with Careless Driving.

Since the crash was between the on and off ramps, all northbound traffic was being routed off the interstate at River Road and then immediately back onto the on ramp.  The main northbound lanes reopened around 5:45pm.

The ABC 7 newsroom received reports around 5pm that traffic was backed up 10 miles.

everyone is speeding. 70 isn't fast enough. the police need to "wage war" on speeders not plants.
