Port Charlotte pedestrian dies after hit and run

**UPDATE** Family members of Kyle Wells have told ABC 7 that Kyle passed away from his injuries Tuesday.

The investigation into this hit and run continues

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. - Troopers say a Port Charlotte Man was critically injured early Sunday morning when he stepped in front of a vehicle.  The driver of the vehicle fled the scene.

It happened just before 3am on Vessels Road south of Brad Avenue.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 23-year-old Kyle Wells of Port Charlotte was walking on the southbound shoulder of Vessels Road and began crossing the street.  That's when he entered the path of a northbound car and was struck by it.

Wells was thrown onto the southbound should by the collision.  He was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

The vehicle is described as possibly a Mercury Grand Marquis.

Anybody who might know the location of the hit and run vehicle is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at (239) 938-1800.

    Someone in the area has to know something. No matter how small or how insignificant you may think it may be, it could be what lead the authorities to the person who took this young man from his family and friends long before it was time. If you live in the area of Vessels Road and Brad Avenue, just think about it: is there a Mercury Grand Marquis or maybe one similar to it that has some recent damage to it?     Word is police found a head light cover with a number on it , gave the model of the car ? So any ercurys in the area that look all messed up in the front is prob your runner , hope theyfind the person who did this , kyle was a great guy a great drummer and an over all fun person to always be around ... r.I.p bro
