Pedestrian injured on Tamiami Trail in Osprey

OSPREY, Fla. - A male pedestrian was critically injured Tuesday night when he was struck by a car as he attempted to cross U.S. 41, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP says that at 10:13pm Tuesday, the man was crossing the northbound lanes of U.S. 41 at the intersection with Old Venice Road/Blackburn Point Road.

The driver of a northbound Chevy Impala saw the pedestrian and attempted to stop, but the man was struck by the car's side view mirror and fell to the roadway.

He was airlifted to Blake Medical Center with critical injuries.  His identity has not been released yet.
