CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. - Deputies say an early morning drunken golf cart ride in the Harbour Heights neighborhood sent one passenger to the hospital after he fell off the cart.

It happened just after 5:30am on Sunnybrook Road.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, 22-year-old Nickoles Chanza of Port Charlotte was driving a golf cart with three passengers westbound on Sunnybrook and decided to make a sharp left turn onto Marine Terrace.

That's when 21-year-old passenger Nicholas McDaniel, who was not securely fastened to the cart, fell off and struck his head on the pavement.

He was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition for treatment.

Chanza was arrested and charged with DUI with Serious Bodily Injury, and Improper Operation of Golf Cart on Certain Roadways.  He was being held on $25,000 bond.
