NORTH PORT - The city of North Port could soon wipe away some hefty fines property owners have built up.

According to our coverage partners at The Sun Herald, North Port city commissioners approved the first reading of a revised ordinance that could help erase more than 3 million dollars in outstanding liens.

At least 100 homes throughout the city accrued fines, because of debris on the property or overgrown grass.

Many of the properties are foreclosures and the city fears people won't buy them if they are faced with these outstanding fines.

The new ordinance would allow those purchasing the homes with liens to apply for a waiver to avoid the fines.
