NORTH PORT - Police say a man speeding through a residential neighborhood in North Port wrecked his car and died in the crash.

It happened a little after 8pm Sunday on Parlay Lane. According to the North Port Police Department, 25-year-old Emanuel Wright had been drinking and was driving his car at a high rate of speed. At the end of the street, Wright continued across Parade Terrace and onto an empty lot, where his car struck a large rock.

He sustained serious injuries in the crash and was flown to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say alcohol was involved in the crash, but they don't know yet how big a factor it played.
