Motorcyclist injured in North Port crash

NORTH PORT, Fla. - Police say a North Port man was seriously injured Tuesday after crashing into the rear end of another vehicle.

According to North Port Police, around 1:13pm, 61-year-old Michael Murphy was southbound on Tamiami Trail on his Harley Davidson motorcycle approaching the Shell gas station near South Biscayne Drive.  That's when a Hummer ahead of him slowed for a vehicle that was turning into the gas station.

Murphy attempted to stop, skidded 50 feet and hit the rear end of the Hummer.  Murphy continued to skid another 34 feet after falling off the bike.  He was not wearing a helmet and suffered head injuries.

He was flown to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton for treatment to serious injuries.
