9/11 Memorial Ceremony planned in Venice

VENICE, Fla. -- Patriots Park in Venice will host a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Wednesday, September 11, 2013.

The actual program will begin at 10:00am and finish at Noon. The Memorial Ceremony will begin with Bag Pipes, a Welcome, an Invocation, Presentation of the Colors, Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem, Reflections from Guest Speakers, Three Round Volley, TAPS, Closing Remarks, Benediction and God Bless America. Former FDNY Fireman Kevin O’Neill will be playing Bag Pipes and Roger and Mitzi Ellis will be playing TAPS.

According to the Military Times, there are now more than 6,717 U.S. service members who have died in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

The Venice memorial has engraved the names of 342 Floridian Fallen Military Heroes, 81 Navy SEAL’s, two of which are recipients of the Medal of Honor, and the names of the Benghazi Four. Recently added were the names of General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, Commander Operation Desert Storm and Christopher “Scott” Chris Kyle, Former Navy SEAL-The Greatest Sniper in U.S. Military History.

There is additional parking at the three locations below and individuals can park, walk or car pool from those locations to Patriots Park.

• Individuals can meet at the Venice Train Depot, Ramada Inn in Venice, walk or car pool to Patriots Park

• Individuals can also meet and park at Centennial Park/Gazebo, Centennial Park, walk and or car pool

• For those individuals coming directly to Patriots Park, please plan on being at Patriots Park long before 10:00am and bring your lawn chairs and non-alcoholic beverages. Plan on car pooling as parking is limited at and around Patriots Park.
