VENICE, Fla. - Police say they have arrested the man responsible for a downtown Venice bank robbery two weeks ago.

53-year-old Michael Baird was arrested in Manatee County by Venice Police detectives.

Police say Baird robbed the Bank Of America brach in the 300 block of West Venice Avenue around 1pm on June 26th.

Baird has a lengthy criminal history including a prior arrest for another bank robbery in Manatee County. Venice Police Chief Tom McNulty credits the successful results of the investigation to the quick response of the patrol units and detective division on the day of the robbery, and to members of the community who came forward with information.
