Man's body found floating in Port Charlotte canal

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL. - Charlotte County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit detectives identified the man whose body was found in a Port Charlotte canal Friday.

He is 50-year-old Michael C. Brenner of Port Charlotte. The Charlotte County Medical Examiner’s Office in Murdock will do an autopsy to determine cause of death.

Detectives were called to a home in the 3100 block of Saint James Street in Port Charlotte just after 11 a.m. Friday on a report of a body floating in the canal behind the homes.

The body of a 62-year-old man was located, removed from the canal, and then transported to the Charlotte County Medical Examiner’s Office in Murdock to determine cause of death.

Detectives said at this time they do not expect foul play and will be awaiting the medical examiner’s autopsy report.

The name of the man who lived in the general area is being withheld until family can be notified.

No other details are being release at this time.
