Man arrested after calling 911 to get a ride from deputies

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - A man that authorities say called 911 in order to get a ride from deputies was granted his wish, in a way.  He was given a ride to jail.

54-year-old Jose Manuel Vazquez of Hialeah was arrested and charged with Misuse of 911.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, shortly after noon on Sunday, 911 operators got a call reporting a crash in the area of Cortland Avenue and Tinker Street.  The caller said he had been run over by a vehicle.

A deputy was sent to the scene, along with an ambulance and the fire department.

The deputy arrived to find Vazquez standing in the street and no sign of an accident.  Vazquez told the deputy that he wasn't injured, he just needed a taxi and wanted the deputy there quickly.

He is being held at the Charlotte County Jail on $1,000 bond.
