Loose water buffalo captured after fence cut near Punta Gorda

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office is looking for help finding whomever cut a fence near Punta Gorda last week, releasing several Asian Water Buffalo.  The animals have since been caught.

It happened Friday along Scham Road off Burnt Store Road south of Punta Gorda.

According to the sheriff's office, the fence containing the buffalo was cut in two locations within 100 yards of each other.  Several Asian Water Buffalo escaped the field, including one that crossed U.S. 41 near Tucker's Grade during rush hour.

If anyone has any information about who may have cut the fence in this case please contact the Sheriff’s Office Agricultural Detective Justin Treworgy at (941) 505-4638.
