SARASOTA COUNTY – Tuesday evening’s rough weather caused lightning to spark a fire at a home on Casey Key.

It happened around 6pm during the evening's thunderstorms. Firefighters responded to calls of a structure fire in the 3500 block of Casey Key Road, but instead of finding flames, all they saw was smoke coming from the roof.

Firefighters went inside to investigate, where they put out a small fire inside one of the bedrooms.

Firefighters say several of the home’s electrical outlets were burned -- most likely a result of that lightning strike. The lightning also left a hole in the roof.

Fortunately, no one was home at the time.
