SARASOTA COUNTY - A motorcycle burst into flames following a hit and run crash in south Sarasota County Tuesday.
It happened around 4:30pm on U.S. 41, just north of River Road.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 26-year-old Teodoro Guzman of Venice was driving behind the motorcycle when the two vehicles collided. The impact threw the rider from the bike while the motorcycle got lodged underneath Guzman's car.
Guzman kept driving, turning onto South River Road. The motorcycle eventually came loose and caught on fire.
A Sarasota County Sheriff's deputy finally stopped Guzman, several miles south, near Englewood. He now faces several charges, including DUI, leaving the scene of a crash, no driver's license, and open container.
The motorcycle rider, 55-year-old David Hawk of Ft. Myers Beach, suffered serious injuries and was flown to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton.
