ENGLEWOOD - A part-time Englewood resident will spend the next 19 years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing nearly 54 million dollars from a small town in Illinois.
60-year-old Rita Crundwell, a former comptroller for the town of Dixon, Illinois stole the millions of dollars over two decades, crippling the town financially.
She previously entered a plea of guilty to charges of embezzlement.
In a federal court Thursday, she apologized for what she had done before the judge sentenced her.
In an attempt to recoup some of the money she stole, her horse breeding operation, along with her mansion on East 5th Street in Englewood, will be sold off.
Crudwell still faces 60 state charges of felony theft.
