SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. - A Venice man was arrested Wednesday morning after crashing into the back end of a sheriff's office patrol car and later testing at four times the legal limit.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, a little after 8am Wednesday, 26-year-old John Tauber crashed his car into the back of a patrol vehicle on Center Road in Venice near Rockley Boulevard, then tried to leave the scene.
According to a report, a responding deputy arrived and questioned Tauber, who reportedly smelled of alcohol and nearly fell over into traffic. He claimed the crash was just a fender bender and there was no reason to stop.
Tauber claimed he hadn’t been drinking and refused to perform standard field sobriety tests, telling the deputy to "F*** off." The report states that "the driver stated he has a lot of money and I need to shut the **** up."
Tauber was taken to jail and took the breath test, blowing a .353 and .365, more than four times the legal limit.
He has been charged with DUI with Breath Alcohol Content above .15, DUI with Property Damage and Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage.
The deputy in the car was uninjured.
