Deputies: Driver of pick-up that hit deputy arrested

PUNTA GORDA, FL. A man wanted for striking a deputy with a pick-up truck and turned himself in.

Charlotte County Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit detectives report that 22-year-old Hunter Bruce Morrison turned himself in on Wednesday.

The Tropical Gulf Acres man was wanted after him and 35-year-old Jeffrey Dean May fled in a pick-up driven by Morrison on Jan. 16 as deputies tried to serve a Violation of Probation warrant on May. When deputies approached the pickup, Morrison quickly put the vehicle in reverse and then went forward at a high rate of speed striking one of the deputies in the leg.

The deputy was treated and released from a local hospital.

Morrison and May eluded deputies, however deputies did locate Morrison’s white 1996 Toyota Tacoma pickup stuck in a ditch in the Charlotte Ranchettes area on Jan. 17.

May turned himself in on Jan. 22 and remains in the Charlotte County Jail on $50,000 bond. Both are charged with Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer. Morrison remains in jail on no bond and is also charged with Violation of Probation. May is additionally charged with Failure to Appear and Failure to Register Motor Vehicle.
