CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – A Port Charlotte couple with a baby in their vehicle was arrested during an undercover bicycle theft sting Thursday.

In response to recent bicycle thefts in the area, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Street Crimes Unit conducted a “bait bicycle” sting in Port Charlotte at the corner of Whidden Boulevard and Janice Avenue in Charlotte Harbor.

Deputies say that at 10:14am, they watched as a van drove by the “bait” BMX bicycle slowly, then turned around and pulled into a nearby parking lot. That’s when they say the occupants looked around to see if anyone was watching, then a man got out, picked up the bicycle, and put it inside the van.

Units converged on the van and arrested the occupants, 36-year-old Jaime Wyatt and 28-year-old Robert Isaacs. The couple’s 14-month-old baby was in the car seat at the time. A relative was called to the scene to take custody of the child.

Wyatt and Isaac were charged with Grand Theft and released on $2,500 bond.

They reportedly told deputies that they drive around and pick bikes up “all the time”.
