NOKOMIS - Onlookers at the north and south jetty saw a potentially dangerous situation as a boat goes went up in flames.

It happened Tuesday just before 2 p.m., when the Nokomis Fire Department was called out to a boat fire at the North Jetty in Nokomis.

A man was on a 15 to 20 foot boat with an inboard motor, when he heard a pop and saw smoke. When he saw flames he jumped off the boat.

The boat was fully engulfed when responders arrived.

Lifeguards swam out to the man and a FWC boat picked him up. He was not injured, but the boat was totally destroyed.
