SARASOTA CO., FL - Is it worth it for the Sheriff's Office to provide a few holding cells for south county law enforcement?  It's a question that Sheriff Tom Knight is asking.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office currently provides the man-power and funding for a set of holding cells at the Venice Police Station.

It allows arresting officers from that city, and North Port to book inmates without having to transport them to downtown Sarasota.

The Sheriff's Office handles the transportation to the main jail. For Venice and North Port Police, this saves time and keeps officers in-service.

7 South Newsroom Reporter Josh Taylor will take a closer look at the use and future of the so called South County Jail.
