CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- Following the death of another inmate early Thursday morning, the Florida Department of Corrections says they have launched a second investigation at the Charlotte County Correctional Institute.
The inmate is identified as 37-year-old Damion Foster. He was serving a life sentence at the prison. In a press release from the Florida Department of Corrections, it says the DOC is assisting the Florida Department of Law Enforcement with both investigations. And the DOC is prepared to take immediate action to ensure accountability based on the outcome of the investigation and Medical Examiners Report.
Earlier this week ABC 7 reported that another investigation was being conducted into the death of inmate Matthew Walker back in April. Nine corrections officers have been placed on leave while the investigation continues. The nine officers on leave are:

- Kent Stott, C.O. Sergeant
- Ahsaki Jones, C.O. Sergeant
- Errol Grant, C.O. Sergeant
- Rosemary Harrington, C.O. Sergeant
- Edward Sinor, C.O.
- Thomas Weidner, C.O.
- Mestely Saintervil, C.O.
- Andrew Love, C.O.
