SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - The Sarasota Police Department is announcing plans to hold a second "Stop the Gun Violence" forum.
The meeting will take place on June 14th, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Robert L. Taylor Community Complex in Sarasota.
A spokesperson for the police department says the meeting will focus on initiatives to eliminate gun violence in our community.
The police department held the first "Stop the Gun Violence" meeting in late May, following a string of shootings in the community of Newtown.
There have been at least 17 shootings in Newtown so far this year.
Police Chief Bernadette Dipino hosted the meeting and told the crowd there are five primary areas of focus to stop the gun violence: legislative initiatives, mental health and medical issues, education; community engagement and prevention.
