SARASOTA, FL-  Dayle Thompson, 37, plead guilty and was sentenced to seven years in prison (3 years minimum mandatory) and a $,5000 fine on Monday for trafficking cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection to a 2013 case in the City of Sarasota.

Officers stopped a vehicle on October 25, 2013 in the 1500 block of 24th Street in Sarasota and  Thompson was a passenger in that vehicle.

There was an extremely strong smell of marijuana coming from inside the car. There were four occupants in the car at the time and they admitted to smoking marijuana earlier.

During a search, officers located two golf ball sized baggies of white powder in the left shorts pocket of  Thompson. The powder was tested and came back positive for the presence of cocaine. The cocaine weighed 53.8 grams.
