BRADENTON, FL (WWSB) - The Tampa Bay Rays are coming back to Bradenton to launch the the Reading with the Rays program.
Reading With the Rays encourages school-aged children to read throughout the summer break by offering prizes.
The Manatee County Public Library is hosting an End-of-the-Summer baseball bash on Friday, August 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Children are encouraged to read books, magazines or newspapers and use baseball-diamond game cards to track their hours and turn into the library for prizes. The top prize is two tickets to a Rays game, which is achieved by reading a total of 24 hours (home plate). Other prizes are as follows: First Base (3 hours), Rays Arm Sleeve; Second Base (5 hours more), Rays Sunglasses; and Third Base (7 hours more), Rays Drawstring Bag.
The Rays plan to bring a current or former Rays player to read to the children who attend.
For the past three summers, Evan Longoria, the former third baseman came to the event.
