Public places are breeding grounds for the flu

SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - We still have a few more months left of flu season and it shows no signs of slowing down, in fact, just the opposite.

According to a representative with Sarasota Memorial Hospital, the number of flu cases and the amount of those hospitalized due to the virus has tripled since last year.

Often times, people walk into public places like a gym and grocery store and end up walking out with the flu virus.

According to an Epidemiologist with the Sarasota Health Department, hundreds of bacterias and germs are on surfaces in public places.

The virus can live on a surface for 24 hours.

The best thing to do is wipe down all shared carts or gym equipment with wet Clorox wipes and hand sanitize.

In order to successfully kill those harmful germs off your hands is to allow the hand sanitizer to completely dry on your hands.
