Police: North Port man drove 90mph while drag racing

NORTH PORT, FL (WWSB) - A North Port man was arrested Saturday after a racing incident that happened over a year ago. 

According to the North Port Sun, Dennis Bratnichenko, 28, caused a crash that left three people severely injured.

According to witnesses, Bratnichenko was racing a vehicle, both going southbound and weaving in and out of traffic.

The North Port Sun reports the victim of the accident was 73-years-old and attempted to turn left from Sumter Boulevard onto Sylvania Avenue. Bratnichenko allegedly hit the passenger’s side of the victim’s truck, leaving such damage it encrouched to the driver’s side compartment of the vehicle.

According to the North Port Sun, police officials analyzed the skid marks from the two vehicles and say Bratnichenko was traveling at least 91 miles per hour with a maximum of 128 miles per hour.

The victim was not charged for speeding, but Bratnichenko was arrested for reckless driving causing great bodily injury and racing on a highway. Bratnichenko's bond was set at $17,500.
