Police investigating Venice park fire

VENICE, FL (WWSB) - Police are investigating an early morning fire that burned the picnic tables and boardwalk of Service Club Park in Venice.

According to Venice Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael O'Connor, Fire and Rescue crews were called to the park, located at 1190 Harbor Dr. S., around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, the boardwalk and picnic tables were engulfed in flames as well as a quarter-acre of brush that was surrounding the area.

O'Connor said VFD had the fire extinguished and "mop-up" was being conducted by 5 a.m.

At this time there is no walkway access to the beach at this location.
